NEW DELHI: Launching a major crackdown on “channelised corruption” in the Food Corporation of India, the CBI on Wednesday conducted searches at over 50 locations and siezed around Rs 80 lakh cash and a huge amount of jewellery after arresting two people including a DGM-level officer in a trap case.
The CBI has booked around 74 accused in the FIR, including FCI executive director Sudeep Singh after a six-month-long undercover operation to identify suspects in the syndicate of officials, rice mill owners and middlemen who were allegedly indulging in corruption on a large scale.
The agency is probing the alleged nexus between FCI officials — from technical assistants to executive director, grain merchants and foodgrain distributors involved in supply of low-quality foodgrains to people.
