Govt, Mineral Foundation to start homestay project
Panaji: With the state cabinet granting approval, Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM) will collaborate with the Mineral Foundation of Goa (MFG) to implement a self-help group (SHG) based homestay project for a period of three years in four villages of Dharbandora taluka.
The proposal envisages that around 160-180 women linked with SHGs and their families will be involved. On completion, the project is expected to generate sustainable additional income to the households involved.
“In collaboration with the Mineral Foundation, GSRLM will form a tourism cluster at four villages i.e. Talde, Dharge, Tambdi and Surla from Dharbandora Block. MFG and GSRLM will work together in collection of baselines and SHG profiling, developing of concepts and offerings, defining client base, finalising the governance structure and guidelines for the future, setting up the project, developing marketing strategy, and preparing an exit strategy,” a senior officer said.
The Department of Rural Development through District Rural Development Agency, North (DRDA) has constituted a society to implement the National Rural Livelihood Vision scheme under the Ministry of Rural Development, government of India.
GSRLM aims at benefitting the rural women through improving their livelihoods. The rural women members are clubbed into Self-Help Groups (SHG) and Village Organisations (VO) and thereafter into Cluster Level Federations (CLF) that produce/manufacture items and provide various services.
GSRLM through its various initiatives is providing various livelihood options through the available support systems.
