Nagpur: “Sanatan dharma itself is Hindu rashtra. Whenever the Hindu rashtra rises, it only happens for the uplifting of the dharma. Now even the almighty wants the sanatan dharma to rise, which means upliftment of Hindustan (India) is certain,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sarsanghchalak (chief) Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday.
He said this quoting philosopher Sri Aurbondindo (Yogi Arvind) while addressing an event to honour saints at Suresh Bhatt auditorium. Aurobindo had himself realised sanatan dharma, which he mentioned in one of his discourses, said Bhagwat.
“Mere god willing that the sanatan dharma should rise is not enough. Had it been so, god could have easily finished the demons. But he instead took human incarnation, spent 14 years in exile, enlightened the (vanvasis) forest dwellers, waged a war with the demons, and killed Ravana. For that they had to give the sacrifice and god did not fight on their behalf,” said Bhagwat in a reference to Lord Rama.
With this, he stressed that even people at large should work to make the ‘divine will on Hindu rashtra’ come true. “There have been many prophecies of India’s immortality including that by Swami Vivekananda. Following the dharma is vital to make it true,” said Bhagwat.
He quickly added that dharma does not mean any particular sect or belief or way of worship alone. “But these are vital aspects of dharma as well. Dharma is followed by conduct, like quest for truth,” he said.
Bhagwat also said that on the social front one should stick to his dharma, and for that be ready to even give up his life.
Bhagwat also said there were series of invasions in the country. Referring to the 13th century spiritual teacher Sant Dnyaneshwar, he said, “The aggression that came during his times from the north and spread to the south had shaken our lives. After that the British invasion made the country lose its self-esteem.”
