MHA must file ATR on Dhingra panel report: BJP secy to Shah
Jalandhar: BJP secretary R P Singh has written to Union home minister Amit Shah, urging the ministry to file an Action Taken Report (ATR) on the Justice Dhingra Committee report, which was accepted by the Union government, before the next hearing of the case in the Supreme Court. Singh has emphasised that the objective was to expose the invisible hand behind the 1984 genocide of Sikhs, as mentioned in the report.
Stating that he had earlier written to him (Shah) on the issue on June 18, 2020, regarding action against the culprits on the basis of the report, Singh said in his letter on Wednesday: “It has been quite long, we have been fighting for justice and the only hope is PM Narender Modi’s government, as it has been done in case of Sajjan Kumar. Our sole objective is to expose the invisible hand behind 1984 genocide, as mentioned by Justice Dhingra in his report.”
The BJP national spokesperson has timed his letter when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has started his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Punjab after paying obeisance at Darbar Sahib Amritsar on Tuesday. It promoted questions from Sikh quarters, including Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP regarding the Army action at Darbar Sahib and then the massacre of Sikhs in 1984 in Delhi.
The letter states that the report submitted by the SIT formed by the Supreme Court and headed by Justice S N Dhingra, was submitted in the court on April 15, 2019, and the Union government had accepted it. He also informed the home minister that he had also received a copy of the office memorandum, dated July 16, 2020, from the ministry to the chairman of the SIT for follow up action.
“Thereafter, I met the chairman of SIT (CBI Director). He told me that he has submitted the report to MHA. Due to Covid situation, I couldn’t follow up further in this matter. My humble request is in context to my earlier letter and follow-up reply by MHA, it would be appreciable if MHA can file their ATR on Dhingra Committee Report before the next hearing of the case, in Supreme Court,” Singh said in his letter.
