Thane: A 41-year-old man, son of a retired police officer, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2016. The accused, Rakesh Naukudkar, was convicted by the additional sessions judge Rachna Tehra.
Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale told the court that the accused was married to Savita Naukudkar, 32. The accused worked in an automobile showroom in Navi Mumbai and his wife worked in an advertising firm in Vashi.
On February 9, 2016, Naukudkar lodged a complaint with the police in Navi Mumbai that his wife had gone missing. Later, her body was found in an isolated spot in the limits of the NRI Sagri police station. The woman’s body had strangulation marks on the neck, and the head was smashed. The prosecution told the court that the accused was in love with another woman who was also examined by the prosecution. The accused wanted the victim to divorce him, but she refused to do so. He then hatched a plan to eliminate her, the prosecution said.
In her order, the judge said the prosecution had proved all the charges under section 302 (murder) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of IPC. —Nishikant Karlikar
