Jamshedpur: The officials of the Chakradharpur (CKP) railway division have joined hands with their counterparts in the Kharagpur (KGP) railway division for joint surveillance. The move follows frequent incidents of stone pelting at passenger trains between Kokpara and Mahadevsal railway stations on the Howrah-Mumbai route.
“A three-pronged approach is being taken. While efforts are under way to identify the stone pelters, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) will generate awareness on safeguarding railway property among the village heads. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic locations,” Onkar Singh, the divisional commandant of the RPF (Chakradharpur), told TOI on Wednesday.
Officials of the Kharagpur division recently sent a letter to their counterparts in Chakradharpur to take up joint surveillance in the areas that have reported stone pelting incidents.
“Stone pelting incidents between Chakulia and Kokpara section necessitates urgent steps towards ensuring passenger safety. The Government Railway Police (GRP), the RPF, and the district police will work in tandem to identify the miscreants and generate awareness among the people,” Rajesh Kumar, the senior divisional commercial manager (SDM) of the KGP division, told TOI.
