Mumbai's Ranji batsman Prithvi Shaw broke multiple records on Wednesday after he smashed a 383-ball triple century against the Assam team in a Ranji Trophy match.

Shaw's 379 knock is the second highest individual score in the history of the competition, bested only by B B Nimbalkar's 443*. However, Shaw is now the highest scorer in the history of the Mumbai team, besting Sanjay Manjrekar's 377 score against Hyderabad in the 1990-91 season.

In the process, Shaw also surpassed test stalwarts Sunil Gavaskar and VVS Laxman, as well as Indian test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara.

Over the past seven innings, the 23-year-old from Mumbai has averaged 22.85, with a high score of 68. Wednesday's knock marked Shaw's first triple-century this season.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shaw finished second this season, scoring 332 runs at a strike rate of 181.42 and a top score of 134 against Assam.

He scored has 217 runs in seven innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but averages more than 50 in List A cricket.

On the first day of the match against Assam, Shaw broke his personal record, scoring 240*(283)

The opening batsman slammed 33 fours and a six, helping Mumbai reach 397 for 2 at the time of stumps after adding 123 runs for the first wicket with Musheer Khan and an unbroken 200 for the third with Ajinkya Rahane.

Shaw is set to play for the Delhi Capitals in this year's Indian Premier League, with his team - Delhi Capitals - retaining him for the 2023 season.
