Guwahati: The operation of super sucker machines to desilt drains and river channels before the onset of the rainy season will be outsourced to a private company with the experience of working in similar areas in Delhi and
Tripura, said urban affairs minister Ashok Singhal on Tuesday.
He admitted that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) failed miserably to operate the machines, which were given to the civic body on December 10, 2021, under a project of the Guwahati Smart City Limited to desilt 575 drains and five river channels. Ten super sucker machines were bought at Rs 25 crore.
