Jamshedpur: Aiming to improve its ranking in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-2023, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has launched a drive to involve citizens in its initiatives to maintain cleanliness in the command areas, JNAC special officer (SO)
Sanjay Kumar said on Sunday.
“The residents are requested to cooperate with the municipal body in keeping their residential areas clean. The corporates will be taken on board to strategise a mechanism with the civic body to maintain hygiene in their areas of operation,” SO Sanjay added.
Inspection officials will make random visits to public places like markets, malls, auto-rickshaw stands and bus terminus to assess cleanliness. Shopkeepers are also requested to ensure that the daily waste generated is thrown in the designated bins. The urban local body will impose fine on the violators, he warned.
Earlier, a joint team of the JNAC and the Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TSUISL) visited the Sakchi market on Friday. They generated awareness among the shopkeepers about the latter’s role in earning a good rank in the ‘swachhta’ index.
Six months ago, the JNAC had directed the hotels and restaurants that produce organic waste of over 50kg daily to install organic waste compost facility. The city managers and sanitation inspectors of the municipal body will visit the organisations to check the progress.
The residential building societies and commercial building owners were also asked to equip the premises with waste compost facility.
Notably, the urban civic body, which has been competing to make place in the top 10 cities bracket in ‘swachh’ ranking under the 10 lakh population category, achieved 12th rank in 2021 but slipped to 18th in the following year.
