SHIMLA: Three army jawans – two from Himachal Pradesh and one from
Jammu and Kashmir – were killed when the vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road during patrolling in the forward area of Machil sector of Kupwara region in J&K late night on Tuesday.
The deceased soldiers, all from 14 Dogra Regiment, have been identified as Sepoy Amit Sharma (23) of Hamirpur district, Havildar Amrik Singh (39) of Mandwara village at Dhanari tehsil of Una district – both in Himachal Pradesh – and Naib Subedar Purshottam Kumar (43) from Majua Uttmi village of Jammu.
According to the information available, the army vehicle was crossing a snow-covered road when it skidded off and fell straight into a deep gorge, killing all three jawans on the spot. The army has recovered the bodies of the three soldiers.
Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while expressing his condolences to the bereaved family members, assured them of all possible help.
Deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri also expressed deep anguish, saying that the government always holds the serving and ex-servicemen in high esteem. “We can never forget the sacrifices of the brave soldiers towards the nation,” he said.
