PRAYAGRAJ: Three members of an interstate gang involved in cloning ATM cards were arrested by special task force (Prayagraj unit) at Gaipura crossing in Mirzapur on Monday night. Cops have also seized 12 ATM cards, two mobile sets, one bike and Rs 3,900 cash from their possession.
Those arrested were Neeraj Kumar Yadav, Ramu Bharatiya and Anshuman Singh, all residents of Handia. Deputy SP (STF) Navendu Kumar said: “A team of STF received an input that members of an interstate gang involved in cloning of ATMs were active near a nationalized bank ATM kiosk near Gaipura crossing under the limits of Vindhyanchal police station of Mirzapur district and chalked out a strategy to catch them.”
The DSP added: “The racketeers used to search for crowded and guard-less rural based ATMs and change their locations to avoid police action. The gang is active in UP, MP, Chhattisgarh and other states.”
Cops said Ram Bharatiya had over 16 criminal cases registered against him in different police station of Prayagraj, Bhadohi and Pratapgarh districts.
The gang was operating in small towns and rural areas for the past two to three years, said police adding “The trio had withdrawn Rs 5000 from an ATM near Urwa area on Sunday.
