Police dispose of 75% cases pending for 5 yrs, H’bag best performer
Ranchi: In a special drive conducted during the past three months, Jharkhand police have disposed of 75% cases, which were pending for more than five years. The police headquarters on Tuesday said that 2,787 cases out of 3,704 have been disposed of in the past three months and efforts are on for speedy disposal of the remaining 917 cases.
A monitoring committee, led by additional director general of police, Sanjay Anandrao Lathkar, reviewed the progress of the cases with the field officers through video conferencing on Tuesday. Source said Ranchi, Bokaro and Dhanbad districts have not been able to meet their targets. Among the best performing districts was Hazaribag where around 85% cases were disposed of.
Lathkar said, “Most of the pending cases are complex in nature with several of them needing government sanction. I have asked the districts to dispose of the cases as soon as possible. Lack of review of pending cases at the district level led to rise in their numbers.”
Since September 2022, the chief secretary Sukhdev Singh and DGP Neeraj Sinha kept reviewing pendency of cases every month, while the supervision committee assessed the progress every fortnight. The committee members also carried out physical verification in districts and issued the necessary directions. Inspector general of criminal investigation department Asim Vikrant Minz is the vice-chairman of the committee.
