2 months after woman kills self on live video chat, ex-boyfriend held

Ramgarh: A person was arrested on Monday on charges of abetting the death by suicide of a 22-year-old married woman with whom he allegedly was in a relationship before her marriage, Ramgarh police said on Tuesday.
A pen drive containing the footage of the incident was also recovered from the accused, police added.
The woman, identified as Payal Kumari of Kumhardih village under Barkagaon block of Hazaribag, hanged herself on a live video call with Manjit Kumar Mahto on November 19, 2022. She was married to a man from a village under Barlanga police station limits in Ramgarh district last year. But she allegedly continued to be in touch with Manjit, a resident of her village, police said.
Raghunath Singh, the officer in charge of Barlanga police station, said, “Payal made a video call to Manjit on November 19, 2022, showing him that she was preparing to hang herself using a saree. She threatened Manjit to come and meet her in the village. He kept refusing and provoked her to kill herself by suicide. She hanged herself while they were on a live video call. We have also recovered a pen drive containing the call.” TNN
