‘Speeding’ water tanker hits biker, runs him over

Guwahati: A man in his late 20s was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a water tanker in Guwahati’s Bharalumukh area.
The victim has been identified as Jadav Das, a resident of Baihata Chariali. Local residents claimed that the tanker, that was filled with at least 10,000 litres of water, ran him over after its driver lost control of the vehicle and hit Das’s scooter.
The tanker was allegedly coming from the wrong side and was speeding which, considering the load on the vehicle, should have been regulated. It hit Das hard and before any medical help could arrive, he died of his injuries. Following the incident, the driver of the truck fled from the spot.
Speaking about the accident, traffic in-charge, Bharalumukh police station, Mukut Baishya, said the incident is being investigated and it is not yet clear if the tanker was coming from the wrong side or not.
