Bhubaneswar: A group of vendors near the Vani Vihar Junction have put up large banners, posters, wall hangings, standees with the name of the hockey players, legends, the
game schedules, in front of their shops almost covering them.
The theme-based banners and posters have become a bug draw for passers-by. “I was amazed to see the banners in front of the shops. The area looks very crowded, but now with the banners and posters covering the shops, it looks very beautiful and organised,” Smita Hota, a passerby at the junction, said.
There are about 30 shops here of different kinds, including juice shop, betel shop, tea and coffee shops and more. The shops are located by the very side of the Vani Vihar Junction making it one of the central points in the city. Students, employees of nearby organisations and people are daily visitors to this vending zone.
“We have collected money by ourselves and prepared these posters, banners and standees. We have put the names of our hockey players to let people know our squad. We have also put the full-time table of the world cup for general information. To pay tribute to our hockey legends, we have put up their posters also,” Jajati Das, a vendor of Vani Vihar Vendors’ Association, said.
The banners and posters have been put in such a manner in front of the shops that it provides
space for the shopkeepers while covering them from being visible to the highway users. “We are excited for the world cup and wanted to do something in our capacity for the city beautification,” Jajati said.
