Surat: Some secrets are best kept as secrets only. Or beware of such crafty eyes who may see through your secret and unlock not only your secrets but make merry with your valuables too.
For example this Surat family who cultivated a habit of keeping the house key in a shoe outside their home after locking it. It went on fine till one day when a thief noticed the practice and no sooner the family had gone outside, he helped himself inside their home and decamp with valuables worth Rs 7.51 lakh!
In the incident, burglars targetted the residence of Kishore Modi, a vegetable wholesale businessman in Chhipwad area who resides on the second floor of Diya Apartment in Valsad on Monday. In a complaint lodged with the Valsad city police on Tuesday, Modi stated that he and his son had gone to their shop in the morning while his wife Vaishali too left home at around 12 pm to give them tiffin and also for some shopping. “The family hides their key in a shoe kept in a shoe rack outside the house. A man noticed the woman leaving the key in shoe,” a police officer told TOI.
Vaishali asked the man his credentials when he replied that he was working as a carpenter doing furniture work in one of the apartments in the building. Not having any doubts, Vaishali left and the man took the key from the shoe and entered the house and stole gold jewellery and cash.
“The burglar left the house open and was caught on CCTV camera. We are trying to identify him,” said the police. The man was caught on multiple CCTV cameras while leaving the apartment campus by jumping a wall to avoid detection, cops added.
