Jaipur bizman gets ₹1cr extortion call
Jaipur: A businessman in Jaipur has received an alleged extortion call from a notorious gangster for a sum of Rs 1 crore. Police said the businessman had filed an FIR at Ashok Nagar police station on Sunday.
Police said the businessman runs a real estate and clubbing business. As per the FIR, the complainant received a WhatsApp call on Sunday on his phone.
The callers greeted the businessman and asked the latter about the construction business. The caller then introduced himself as Bikaner’s gangster Godara and asked him to arrange Rs 1 crore.
The accused also threatened the businessman that if instructions are not followed then he will be abducted. Police suspect that the caller could be Rohit Godara, a notorious gangster who is wanted in the murder of gangster Raju Theth.
Jaipur police said it is also possible that someone impersonated the gangster to extort money from the businessman. “There have been many incidents in the past wherein some miscreants called up traders to demand money. We have increased the businessman’s security and efforts are underway to track down the suspect,” said an official.
Jaipur police also said there have been similar incidents wherein someone impersonated gangsters to demand money.
Police, however, said they have not ruled out the possibility of some organised gang trying to extort money from the businessman. tnn
