Include new sector residents in GMDA council: MLA Rakesh Daultabad

GURUGRAM: Badshapur MLA Rakesh Daultabad has demanded the inclusion of residents from new sectors in GMDA's residents' advisory council (RAC). GMDA notified the list of the new RAC members on December 30 and it has a few members of city RWAs, but none are from new sectors.
According to the GMDA bylaws, the authority can appoint prominent citizens as members of RAC, who will work with the authority and give suggestions and feedback on issues related to the general public. The bylaws talk about the categories of people who can be nominated as members of RAC, but there is no classification for the demography of residents to be nominated.
Daultabad pointed out that infrastructure of new sectors comes under GMDA and RAC should have representatives from these areas. "All the basic infrastructure of sectors 65 to 115 is under the preview of GMDA and also under Badshapur assembly constituency, which is represented by me as its MLA. But the nominated list has no representative from the these areas as an RAC member," Daultabad said, adding that he has written to GMDA asking that it add at least two names from new sectors.
The RAC has a mandate to monitor the implementation of the annual plan of action for infrastructure development, mobility management plan and the plan for sustainable management of the urban environment and make recommendations. The council is supposed to advise GMDA and provide guidance on the exercise of its power and its functions.
"The members of RAC are not appointed on the basis of their residential address. We will consider the request made by the MLA," said an GMDA official.
The current RAC members include Gurugram Industrial Association president Jagan Nath Mangla, National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) chairman Praveen Jain, NRC chairman Dr Harsh Vinayak, Captain S S Pathania (retd), Sector 10A RWA president Udaybir Yadav, Ardee City RWA president Praveen Kumar, Aravali View Rail Vihar RWA president D D Sharma and Sushant Lok RWA member Sudakshina Laha. Entrepreneur Bodh Raj Sikri is also a member.
