PANAJI: CM Pramod Sawant on Tuesday night said the Pilerne industrial estate inferno is the biggest incident witnessed in Goa's fire emergency history.
Taking stock of the situation on ground at the industrial estate after the fire had been raging for more than seven hours, chief minister Pramod Sawant said a thorough inquiry will be conducted.
He advised anyone facing breathing issues to immediately move to a hospital, and said that provisions are being made to shift the elderly, children and those with asthama and respiratory issues out of the vicinity.
"Ambulances are ready to shift people to health centres and GMC," he said.
"Goa Pollution Control Board is monitoring the
pollution levels in the area and they have set up pollution meters in surrounding areas. GMC doctors are on site and services of occupational health specialists have been activated," he told reporters, adding that a health advisory will be issued.
When questioned about the negligence that led to the fire and whether action would be taken, Sawant said, "The priority right now is disaster management."
The carbon monoxide emanating from the fire fighting operation is dangerous for people to breathe in, he said.
Meanwhile, Candolim panchayat made arrangements to shift people and for their overnight stay at the village temple.
