LUDHIANA: The
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday conducted raids at over 50 places, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh in connection with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) scam case.
According to a source, the investigation into the scam which allegedly was being run by an organised syndicate comprising Rice Millers, Middlemen, Traders, Sheller Owners and FCI officials has been going on since May 2022.
This syndicate indulged in facilitating the supply and distribution of low-quality food grains to consumers by forged means.
Source also revealed that the raids have been under way since Tuesday in Punjab’s Ludhiana, Ropar, Sirhind, Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and so far two arrests one of a DGM of FCI and a rice miller have been made in Chandigarh.
Besides cash of more than Rs 80 lakh, jewellery, and several incriminating documents have been seized in the operation so far.
