Collegium sends 8 names to govt for appointment as HC judges
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended to the Centre names of eight persons for appointment as judges in five different high courts.
The names included that of judicial officer Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui who, if cleared by the Centre, would be the first woman from the ST community to become a judge of Manipur HC. The collegium comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph on Monday also recommended the names of two other women — judicial officer P Venkata Jyothirmai and advocate Neela Gokhala — for the HCs of Andhra Pradesh and Bombay.
It selected judicial officers Ramachandra Dattatray Huddar and Venkatesh Naik Thavaryanaik, both from the SC community, for appointment as judges of the Karnataka HC, in an attempt to give adequate representation to persons from the SC and ST communities as well women.
