KALYAN: A day after a 14-year-old student was injured in an accident after his mother driving a scooter lost balance on a waterlogged road near a school on National Highway-61 in Kalyan, the school's staff protests by sitting in same muddy road to protest against National Highway Authority who failed to get speed up road work.
Another side, after school's protest now NHAI have again issued fresh notice to contractor asking him to speed up work on road.
On Monday, a 14-year old student injured after his mother Anuja Salvi while returning from school due to extra class lost balance of her scooter and fell down due to muddy and disbalanced road.
She said they were lucky because there was no big vehicle or else the tragedy could have been worse.
The 3km stretch of the National Highway near Kalyan is in bad condition.
Locals, as well as schools located on the highway, have been protesting for the last two years against the NHAI, demanding to speed up cementing of the road which is going at a slow pace.
Meanwhile, after Monday's incident, the Sacred Heart school's administrator Albin Anthony with other staffs of school stage a sit-in on the muddy and disbalanced road to protest against the NHAI on Tuesday protested in same muddy road.
Anthony said, "Many accidents took place due to the poor condition of the road and drainage line not repaired by contractor carrying out cement road work but NHAI not getting work done from contractor".
In last few months several protests held on same road by locals as well as same school against NHAI who is looking failed to get repair road from contractor who is carrying out cementing of road work.
When asked Jyoti Shinde, executive engineer of PWD, NHAI said, "The contractor is truly delayed work and we have issued notice to him asking to speed up work and we hope in two to three days contractor will speed up work".
