Ayush sports medical centre to come up near Mangala Stadium
Mangaluru: A year after the Ministry of Ayush sanctioned an Ayush Sports Medicine Centre for the coastal city, the department in Dakshina Kannada has finalised 30 cents of land near Mangala Stadium for the purpose.
Since sports activities take place regularly at the stadium, the new centre will be a boon for athletes of the district and outside. The Ayush department has already sent a detailed project report (DPR) for the centre to the government, Dr Mohammad Iqbal, district Ayush officer, said.
“We have plans to develop the Ayush Sports Medicine Centre with two main objectives. The centre will provide support to athletes for fitness management as well as injury management. Our aim is to set up a national-level sports medicine centre. We will develop infrastructure on par with international sports medicine centres. It should cater to sports persons arriving in the city from various states. The centre will have facilities to reside, sports lab, yoga studio, panchakarma therapy centre, hydrotherapy unit, and all other infrastructure required for a sports medicine centre,” he said.
“We have sent a DPR for the project to the central government through the state government. Once the central government approves the DPR, the tender process will commence. We have a plan of setting up the project at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore. Soon after the government approval, an agency to take up the project will be fixed after the tender process,’’ said the officer.
Since it is a sanctioned plan, the government will approve it without much delay, Iqbal said, adding the Ministry of Ayush had sanctioned the Ayush Sports Medicine Centre in Mangaluru as part of the National Ayush Mission in 2021-22.
