Gurgaon: Two brothers from Kenya were allegedly robbed of US $1,800 by three men posing as policemen in Sector 52 on Sunday evening.
The foreign nationals, identified as Suleiman and his brother Abdihakim, have been staying in Gurgaon since January 1 for medical treatment, police said.
According to the complainants, on Sunday evening they were returning to their guesthouse in Sector 52 when three accused asked them to stop.
They came in a white car and allegedly identified themselves as Gurgaon police personnel.
The accused told them that they had some intel based on which they wanted to search them.
“When they left after conducting a search upon us, we checked one of our bags and realised that they had taken the US $1,800 kept in it,” Suleiman told police.
The duo then called the police control room from the spot and informed them about the theft.
Soon, the station house officer of Sector 53 police station, along with an ASI, reached the guesthouse and met the foreign nationals who told them about their ordeal.
Based on their complaint, the accused, who haven’t been identified so far, have been booked under sections 379 (theft), 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 53 police station.
“We are checking footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify and nab the accused,” said a police officer.
