Authorities seized 386 grams of gold valued at 21.5 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express on Sunday
TRICHY: Customs officials at Trichy international airport have seized foreign currencies, including US Dollars and Euro, equivalent to 74 lakh from a passenger about to board a Singapore flight. The authorities also recovered gold worth 21.5 lakh in various forms, including in a powder mixed with health drinks, from another passenger.
According to sources, Air Intelligent Unit of the customs department checked a passenger who was about to board a Singapore-bound Scoot Airlines owing to suspicion on Sunday. They found $80,000 and ₹10,000 equivalent to Indian currency value of 74.2 lakh.
In another incident, the authorities seized 386 grams of gold valued at 21.5 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express on Sunday. Authorities seized the gold powder mixed with Nestle Nesquik Chocolate powder and gold chains concealed in checked-in luggage.
When the authorities segregated the gold from the health mix, they extracted 211 grams of the metal. Unfinished gold chains weighing 175 grams were also recovered from the passenger.
