Congress appoints presidents for 8 block committees
Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday appointed presidents for eight block Congress Committees.
Rudresh Deshprabhu (Pernem), Krishna Nene (Valpoi), Ramesh Shirodkar (Poriem), Vishal Volvoikar (Cumbharjua), Melvin Fernandes (Vasco), Chanda Velip (Sanguem), Abel Borges (Canacona), and John Nazareth (St Cruz) have been appointed block presidents.
The order of their appointments was issued by the s[party’s state vice-president M K Shaikh.
In September last year, after its eight MLAs joined BJP, all block committees were dissolved and declared that these will be reconstituted in due course of time.
A party functionary who did not want to be named said the party has taken more time to appoint block presidents.
Six months ago, Congress indicated it will not have an intra-party election, but the party will be reconstituted subsequently. The office bearer said, with the absence of unanimity over certain issues, things have not happened the way they desired.
Meanwhile, there appears to be friction between past president Girish Chodankar and president Amit Patkar, though neither have made a public display of their dislike of each other.
“With eight of our leaders parting ways, it was not easy to constitute block committees immediately. We have taken time to verify that people whom we give responsibilities, do not owe allegiance to people outside the party,” the party functionary added.
