Jaipur: Issues of importance concerning legislature practices across the country and the world will be discussed at the 83rd All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) starting at the state Assembly here on Tuesday.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will chair the three-day conference, which will be inaugurated by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday. CM Ashok Gehlot, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan and the Speakers of all state Assemblies are attending this conference, which is being held in Jaipur for the fourth time. It was earlier held in the city in 1957, 1978 and 2011.
“There will be sessions on the need to make parliament and state legislatures more effective, accountable and productive, the integration of state legislatures with figital parliament, and the need to maintain a harmonious relationship between the legislature and the judiciary in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution,” said
Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi on Monday.
The conference will have a lasting impact on legislatures in India, he added.
