No respite from chilly weather in state till Jan 11
Patna: People across the state should brace for fierce cold weather as Patna Meteorological Centre on Monday issued warning for severe cold day as well cold wave over the next two days. On Monday, Gaya shivered at 3.7 degrees C, while Patna recorded the minimum temperature at 6.2 degrees C.
The Patna centre on Monday issued an advisory, stating that any major respite from cold day and dense fog conditions is unlikely in the state for the next two days. It stated that dense fog and cold winds are blowing up to 6km above surface level. It further stated that no significant change is expected in the state till January 11. Its special bulletin stated that flights may be delayed due to fog cover, cracks may appear on railway tracks, tripping may occur on high voltage electricity transmission line and chances will be higher of strokes and cardiac arrest among people due to the severe cold condition.

The resident can, however, expect some respite from January 12 as the local Met office has predicted rise in temperature by two to three notches along with reduction in intensity of fog cover.
While, Patna and Bhagalpur witnessed cold day conditions, several districts, including Purnia, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Supaul, Araria and East Champaran faced severe cold day conditions on Monday.
Cold day apart, cold wave was declared at Gaya and Bhagalpur. As per norms of India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave condition is declared at a place when the actual minimum temperature is 10 degrees C or lower along with departure of 4.5 to 6.4 degrees C from the corresponding normal for at least two consecutive days.
Sub-10 temperatures were recorded at most places in the state, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Siwan and Samastipur. Jamui was the only district in the state where the minimum temperature was above 10 degrees C (11.6 degrees C).
Day temperatures are also being recorded considerably low. For instance, maximum temperature in Patna on Monday was recorded at 12.8 degrees C, which was nine notches lower than the corresponding normal.
Patna Meteorological Centre has issued orange to yellow warning for severe cold day to cold day conditions at different places in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.
An orange coloured warning stipulates that the authorities should be prepared for extreme weather condition, while the yellow warning means be watchful for such weather.
