Karnataka cop suspended for filing fake case against two sisters at behest of 'Santro' Ravi

BENGALURU: State director general and inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Praveen Sood on Tuesday suspended police inspector Praveen K Y, for colluding with Manjunath alias Santro Ravi, who came under the scanner after audio tapes of him promising lucrative postings for police officers citing his proximity to a few ministers went viral, for following a fake case against two women.
Praveen, who was earlier the police inspector-Cottonpet police station, was transferred to city intelligence and is yet to report for duty in the new post.
A woman had earlier this month filed a complaint against Santro Ravi with Mysuru police of raping and blackmailing her. In the complaint, she had stated how Ravi succeeded in registering a false case against her with Cottonpet police and getting her and her sister arrested.
Sources said that Praveen’s suspension was based on the report made against Praveen by deputy commissioner of police (DCP)-West-Laxman Nimbargi.
“Praveen, as he had not appeared for the new post after getting transferred from Cottonpet police station on November 30, was not under the city police commissioner, nor under the intelligence officials. Officially, Praveen had no immediate senior IPS officers over him. In such conditions, DG-IGP of the state will act,” sources said.
According to the sources, a report submitted to DG-IGP Sood by Laxman Nimbargi explains how Santro Ravi and suspended inspector Praveen had created a crime that was not committed, produced fake witnesses and fixed the women in the false case, registered on November 24 in Cottonpet police station.
The FIR against the women were registered under IPC 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt).
In the FIR, it was stated that the two women, who had taken a loan of Rs five lakh from a city-based person, had attacked and robbed him of valuables when he came to meet them near Majestic. Now, the report made against Praveen says that the contents of the entire FIR were fake and Praveen acted on the directions of Santro Ravi.
