Veterans Club plea to Centre for naval flotilla in state
Bhubaneswar: In order to strengthen the security system along the country’s east coast and generate revenue and employment, the Veterans Club of Odisha here has requested the Centre to set up a naval flotilla and a ship building yard in Odisha.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Veterans Club said there are many historical, geographical, geological and mineral, economical and security aspects to the justification that Odisha should have the flotilla and the ship building yard.
The club has proposed Chilika Lake or Keluni Muhana in Puri for the location of the flotilla. “The flotilla will give coastal security from Digha to Gopalpur. This would provide security to the ITR at Abdul Kalam Island in Balasore,” president of the club, Bidyadhar Nayak, said.
He said the flotilla will give a blow to the current foreign infiltration from the West Bengal coast and Bangladesh to Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts of Odisha.
The Veterans Club mentioned in its letter that the ship building yard where warships could also be produced would give a great employment and economic opportunity to both the state and central governments.
