Haryana’s top law officer defends min as his counsel
Chandigarh: Facing flak for openly defending former sports minister Sandeep Singh, who has been booked for allegedly molesting a junior athletics coach, the Haryana government may be embroiled in another controversy with state’s additional advocate general (AAG) Deepak Sabharwal defending the minister as defence lawyer.
Sabharwal, who is among the second senior-most law officers of Haryana, was not only seen accompanying Singh on Sunday when he appeared before the SIT of Chandigarh police but has been briefing media as his defence counsel. Important to mention that Singh is still a minister and the victim had accused the Haryana officials of not hearing her grouse whenever she tried to approach them. The FIR was registered in Chandigarh, as the alleged incident had taken place at the minister’s Chandigarh residence.
