Jamshedpur: The dip in mercury and chilly winds in and around Jamshedpur have resulted in a sudden rise in the number of cases of children arriving at state-run hospitals and private health clinics with cough, cold and cold diarrhoea.
Minimum temperature has been hovering around 10 degrees Celsius for the past few days. Foggy weather conditions during the daytime and chilly winds have added to the woes.
In the state-run MGMMCH, over 60 children have reported at the paediatrics ward with cold-related ailments for the past one week. The head of the department, Dr KK Chaudhury, said over 60 children suffering from viral fever have been brought to the ward. Most of the patients arrive with complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting along with fever.
The number of cases showing symptoms of pneumonia among the younger age group has also gone up in recent days, he added.
Dr Kundan Kumar of Sadar Hospital said the footfall of kids suffering from cold-related problems has shown a considerable rise over the past few days.
