GURUGRAM: “If more people are approaching with complaints, it means officers are not working properly,” Haryana agriculture minister Jai Parkash Dalal said, giving Gurgaon authorities a stinging review after chairing the grievance forum on Monday.
The state minister, referring to the number of people attending the district grievance committee forum, said the “public is supreme in a democracy” and it was the responsibility of every government agency and official to resolve their concerns.
Dalal, who was given charge of the committee last September, had converted the district grievance forum from a monthly closed-door meeting to a ‘darbar’ format, allowing anyone to attend the meeting and raise an issue. Earlier, the district administration used to select the complaints that would be placed before the forum.
Monday’s meeting held in Civil Lines included discussions on 16 complaints listed in the agenda. Of these, ten were resolved and the remaining six were left to be taken up at the next meeting, which is yet to be scheduled.
Among the complaints addressed was one by a resident of Dhanwapur village, who told the forum that land dug up adjacent to his field for construction of a basement has been lying uncovered for the past four years. “There is no boundary wall around the basement, and it causes waterlogging and soil displacement,” the villager said. On this, officials were told to direct the developer to fill up the dug-up site within a month or face police action after that.
On the issue of illegal guest houses and PGs in HSVP sectors, the minister directed MCG to carry out a survey and submit a detailed report on it.
The residents of an affordable housing society in Sector 3 of Farrukhnagar raised their issue regarding temporary electricity connections. According to DHBVN, the society has just 10KW connections even though an independent feeder of 1037KW has been approved.
This, the discom told Dalal, is because the developer has not submitted Rs 3.4 crore as bank guarantee to it. The minister has now asked the department of town and country planning (DTCP) to resolve the residents’ plight and initiate the process to cancel the developer’s licence.
After members of the Daulatabad Industrial Association spoke of infrastructural inadequacies, the state minister also asked officials to make necessary changes in the district’s master plan. “Till this process gets completed, MCG will ensure that the industries do not face any problem in their operation,” Dalal added.
The meeting was attended by Gurgaon MLA Sudhir Singla, deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav, additional deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, joint commissioner of police Kulvinder Singh, and MCG commissioner PC Meena, among others.
