Warmer days, cool nights ahead in Kolkata: Met
Minimum temperature will hover around 12-13 degrees Celsius
KOLKATA: The mercury on Monday rose to 13.2 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal mark. However, the maximum temperature climbed a degree above normal and stood at 25.8 degrees. The slower intensity of the Northwesterly caused a rise in temperature, said the Met office. Nights in the city will bear a chill, but days could be warmer over the next few days, said weathermen.
"Even as minimum temperature is expected to bearound 12-13 degrees Celsius-which is below normal -the maximum will remain around 25-26 degrees for now. While nights will be chilly, the days could be a little warmer," said GK Das director (weather) at Regional Meteorological centre, Kolkata.
The chill-bearing Northwesterly has slowed down, resulting in a temperature increase. From Friday onwards the wind system could be missing from the city due to an impending western disturbance across north-western states.
This will push the mercury up but temperature will dip again from Monday. January 6 was the coldest winter day in the past 5 years. The minimum climbed a little the next day.
