FATEHABAD: A fast-track special court has held 63-year-old Amarveer, also popular as Jalebi Baba Amarpuri 'Billu' of Fatehabad's Tohana, guilty of not only raping more than 100 women but also making video clips of those crimes.
Additional district judge Balwant Singh will pronounce the quantum of sentence on Tuesday (January 10). Jalebi Baba used the clips to blackmail the women into exploiting them again.
The Tohana City police had booked him on July 19, 2019, when one of the videos went viral in the city. Later investigation led the cops to at least 120 similar clips, each of a different victim, and these had been shot with Amarveer's mobile phone.
A widower who is father of four girls and two boys, Amarveer moved to Tohana from Punjab's Mansa town about 23 years ago. In the first 13 years, he ran a jalebi stall, where he met a tantrik who initiated him into the occult practices.
Amarveer then disappeared from Tohana for a few years, and returned to build a house with a temple next to it, where he started receiving followers, many of them women.
In 2018 also, the wife of an acquaintance had accused him of raping her inside his temple. He had, however, secured bail in that case.
