A day after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray slammed the plan to shift the sprawling 226-acre Mahalaxmi Racecourse to a private land near Mulund dumping ground, Congress and Samajwadi Party too hit out at the state government and the BMC over the proposal. The BMC plans to convert the heritage racecourse ground in south Mumbai into a theme park. Aaditya, an MLA from Worli assembly constituency in which the racecourse is located, on Monday reiterated the space was an integral part of Mumbai. Aaditya tweeted: “Khoke Sarkar now wants to sell the race course! The Mahalaxmi Racecourse is an integral urban open space of Mumbai and part of every Mumbaikar’s life. Uddhav Thackeray ji had proposed a park like “The Hyde Park” where everyone would have free, open access to a green open space, without any construction. . . We also hear that commercial interests are involved in Mulund’s proposed racecourse at taxpayers expense. ”
