The apex court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the decision of Uttarakhand and Gujarat to constitute committees to introduce and enforce the uniform civil code . Finding no merit in the plea filed by one Anoop Baranwal, a division bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha, observed that the constitution of such committees cannot be challenged as ultra vires before courts.
