In order to strengthen the security of the area, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is providing arms training to Village Defence Committee (VDC) guards in the Union Territory. The aim is to make the VDC guards able to safeguard the villagers in case of any terrorist attack. A CRPF official said that the weapons training for the VDC guards will help them secure several families from any territory attack, as well as fill a sense of security among the villagers. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has recently started reissuing weapons to village defence guards (VDGs), earlier known as village defence committees (VDCs), following the Dhangri incident in Rajouri district in which seven people were killed. The VDGs comprise local village volunteers. The development comes following the twin terror attacks in Dhangri village in Rajouri district last week, in which seven people, including two children, were killed and 11 others injured.
