GUWAHATI: A fourth-year BTech student of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) was found dead in his hostel room on Monday afternoon.
This is the second such death on the IIT-G campus in the last one month. On December 10, a faculty member was found hanging on the institute's campus here in North Guwahati.
The office of IIT-G director has not yet revealed the name of the student, citing Supreme Court guidelines. A senior official of the institute, however, told TOI that the BTech student hailed from Maharashtra.
Even as a magisterial probe is on, sources in IIT-G said the student was found dead under mysterious conditions in his singlebed room in Dihing hostel. “He was found dead in his bed and was lying in a normal position.
The door was open at the time of recovery of the body,” said an IIT-G official. Kamrup SP Hitesh Roy said the autopsy will be done on Tuesday.
“The reason behind his death is not yet clear. The post-mortem could not be carried out today since it took a few hours to complete the formalities after confirming the death,” he added.
“Since his body was found in bed in a normal condition, we need to investigate the case carefully and go through the post-mortem report before coming to a conclusion,” Roy told
