Jamshedpur: The son of a former BJP district president died by suicide on Monday. Tinku Mishra (37), a resident of Indranagar in Bhalubhasa, hanged himself from the ceiling of his room on Monday.
He was the youngest son of septuagenarian BJP leader, Chandrashekhar Mishra, and was a contractual employee at Tata Bluescope company.
Sitaramdera police has learnt that the deceased was under depression for the past few days. "A detailed probe into the matter is going on," police station in-charge, Akhilesh Mandal, told reporters.
Chandrashekhar is a BJP senior leader and was the district party president between 2009 and 2012.
Since January 1 this year, five suicides have already been reported from the two adjoining towns of Jamshedpur and Adityapur.
An official of a city-based suicide prevention centre — Jeevan — said that compared to the number of suicides in 2021, 2022 witnessed lesser number of such incidents.
"In 2021, the city reported 255 suicides, whereas in 2022, a total of 206 people died by suicide, which is about 19% less than the previous year," said director, Jeevan, Dr Jeoraj Jain.
There's a lot to cover as far as enhancing awareness about stress management, depression and suicide prevention is concerned, he added.
Jeevan has installed awareness hoardings and signboards at 70 different sites across the radius of the industrial town in the past six months.
