Apostolic administrator of Mys diocese takes charge
Mysuru: Rev Dr Bernard Moras – the Archbishop Emeritus of Archdiocese of Bengaluru, has taken charge as apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Mysore for the ordinary administration and pastoral care of the diocese as Bishop of Mysore Rev KA William took a period of absence from the ministry for an indefinite period.
The secretary general of the Catholic bishops’ conference of India (CBCI), Archbishop Felix Machado confirmed the appointment of Bernard Moras following a decree by the Dicastery for evangelization (DFE). The DFE instructed Machado to inform all bishops in India about the appointment. Bernard took charge soon after the special prayers at St Philomena’s Church on Saturday at 6 pm.The decree was passed on December 14, 2022, Machado stated.
According to the footage that has become viral, Bernard’s appointment and decree by the Dicastery for evangelization were read out before a large gathering of parishioners at St Philomena’s church at 6 pm on January 7. Apostolic administrator Bernard Moras, Bishop Emeritus Antony Vazhappilly and former Bishop KA William were present.
It was also read out that the change is to facilitate an objective inquiry into a particular situation, without naming it. A priest from the diocese, on condition of anonymity, claimed that the ‘situation’ here means allegations of moral and financial misappropriation against Rev KA William.
