The first meeting of the G20 'Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion' started in Kolkata on Monday with CM Mamata Banerjee emphasising on "giving development a human face". The Bengal leg of the Summit, which will continue from January 9-11, began with an address by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, and will focus on the principles of digital financial inclusion, remittance costs and SME finance availability. Speaking at the meet where delegates from member countries assembled, Banerjee said: "India is a big democracy and we are united by our Constitution despite its vastness and diverse nature, with many languages, various castes, creed and communities. Without the development of the people, the world cannot develop. Our government is doing development work with a human face."Banerjee elaborated how the state has "empowered women, farmers and MSMEs". She spoke about the development of women and the backward sections of society. She highlighted the various steps taken by the state l government to increase e-governance and digital transactions.
