No threat to women’s safety in state BJP, says Khushbu
Coimbatore: BJP leader and actress Khushbu Sundar defended the state unit of BJP by stating that there were no threats to women’s safety in the party.
Talking to reporters in the city on Sunday, she recalled that BJP stood firmly with her when a DMK speaker abused her verbally at a meeting a month back.
In the wake of sacked BJP functionary Gayathri Raguramm alleging that women are unsafe in the BJP, Khushbu said it was not true.
“It may be the mindset of some people. But I don’t think that’s true,” she said. “I am there in BJP. Lots of other women are there. They have not left BJP,” she said, buttressing her argument.
Joining issue on the controversy over governor R N Ravi stating that it was better to call ‘Tamilagam’ than Tamil Nadu, Khushbu said there was nothing wrong with what the governor said. She said it doesn’t make a difference if the state was called Tamil Nadu or Tamilagam.
When asked about alleged controversies surrounding the speeches of BJP state president K Annamalai, she said it was natural when someone makes ‘bold and clear’ statements. “All this while everyone saw only docile leaders. Annamalai talks boldly, which will be controversial for others,” she said.
Union minister of state for information technology L Murugan, who was in Coimbatore to participate in a couple of events, too touched upon the ‘Tamilagam’ row. “What the governor suggested is correct,” he said.
The actor was in the city to flag off a 'Rekla race' (Ox cart race) organised by the party in Vellalore. She said Pongal is the traditional festival of Tamil Nadu and brings happiness to all houses.
However, the Pongal gift offered by the DMK government was a shame and the sugarcane and 1,000 were given like alms, she alleged.
