2 city kids campaign against ‘China dor’
Ludhiana: Two children from the city have joined hands with the Ludhiana Police to mobilise public opinion against illegal Chinese plastic kite string, called China dor. Madhwan Rai, 11 and Hazel, 12 are ambassadors in the campaign against illegal China dor.
Police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, “Today, DGP Gaurav Yadav issued an advisory against Chinese string in which manufacturing, selling and using Chinese string in Punjab has been completely banned. It has been stated that strict action will be taken against those selling and buying this string. He also urged parents to not allow their children to use the string for kite flying and make them aware of its outcome. Since children are more into kite flying, I wanted to enroll children in the campaign against plastic kite string.”
He added that police have been lodging FIRs against those selling or possessing such strings. “However, it is more important is to end the demand for China string, for which we have to make people aware. Just for the fun of a few minutes, they are putting the lives of humans and birds in danger, which has to stop,” said Sidhu.
City Police have shot two different videos with Hazel, Class VI student of Master Tara Singh Memorial Public School and Madhwan Rai, Class VI student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Bhattian. Both the children are artistes. Madhwan, a singer, has performed with legendary Punjabi singers.
Hazel, 12, is from Rajesh Nagar of Haibowal Kalan. Her father Navdeep Kumar works as a laboratory attendant at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and mother Kavita is a homemaker.
“I have worked for many short movies but working for Ludhiana Police is an honour for me. I played the role of a bird in the video released by the city police. The bird gets entangled in the plastic kite string and fails to free itself. She flies again after cops come to its rescue.,” Hazel said.
