Dwarka underpass: Traffic diverted due to repair work
The work may affect commuters going to IGIA
NEW DELHI: The traffic on the Dwarka underpass was diverted due to repair work on Sunday.
The public works department (PWD) started the process of repairing a drain pipeline on the stretch on Friday.
"The work that will be carried out overnight is likely to cause traffic congestion and affect the commuters going towards the Indira Gandhi International Airport," officials said on Sunday.
This underpass gets flooded due to heavy showers during the monsoon season, leaving commuters in trouble.
According to officials, there were issues with the water drainage system, which used to cause the problem, hence, PWD took up the work of fixing it for the long run. This required diversion of the traffic.
"Hanuman Mandir Underpass, which is from Dwarka to the lane on the side of Dhaula Kuan was closed to replace grating. It had broken and become dangerous. The work is being done and (the road) will be opened tomorrow morning," said a PWD official.
However, Delhi Police said they had already opened the underpass as commuters were facing problems.
"They had asked permission from us for some construction activities," an officer said.
Traffic police on Saturday said traffic was heavy in the carriageway from Palam Flyover towards Delhi Cantonment due to the diversion of traffic on the Indian Oil Red Light in view of the construction work on the underpass towards NH8.
