Eateries eat into roads at Ramganj Bazaar in city
Jaipur: Several restaurants and dhabas at Ramganj Bazaar have encroached upon the main roads, blocking them and causing traffic snarls, said Ramganj Bazaar Jan Sangharsh Samiti (RBJSS) on Sunday. Residents of the area also agreed with the members of the market committee, who made the statements at a news conference.
The residents alleged that the eateries that have encroached upon the roads produce heavy smoke and cause pollution as they cook on the roads itself. As their LPG cylinders are kept on the roads outside the restaurants, there is always a risk of accidents due to the cramped space, they said.
Mohd Asif, the legal advisor of RBJSS, said even though the organisation has written to administration and police officials several times and raised these problems, no action has been taken so far.
“There are many eateries that have encroached upon the roads, taking at least one-third of them. They keep their furniture and sitting place for customers outside the eateries, thus taking large parts of the road and blocking them. This forces the residents of the area to wrestle with frequent traffic jams despite the roads being wide,” said Asif.
RBJSS members also said the traffic problem worsens because of regular flow of devotees to about seven important temples located near the market.
