Sanjeev Kumar said Pintu Barnwal (35), a resident of Gomoh, was carrying some gelatine sticks along with detonators in his bike. “At Topchanchi, when he alighted from his bike to buy vegetables, the gelatine sticks burst probably due to coming in contact with the detonators kept alongside,” he added.
Four women vegetable sellers sitting by the roadside along with the bike owner sustained burn injuries due to the incident.
Gelatine sticks are frequently used for blasting stones at crushing units. Though illegal, it is easily available in almost every part of the district. The injured bike owner is alleged to have obtained it from Bagodar in Giridih district and was going to Gomoh when the incident happened.
