In the 2014 delimitation exercise too, the Commission increased the ZP seats to 23 from 21 seats by carving out Kowdalli and Amachavadi ZP constituencies in the district. ZP carved out 27 seats in the 2021 announcement. Now under the present delimitation exercise, the commission has added another five constituencies.

As per the notification, Yelandur taluk has three ZP seats such as Agara, Yelandur Kasabha and Kesthru, Kollegal taluk has four ZP seats such as Kuntur, Satyagala, Palya and Kongarahalli.
Hanur and Gundlupet taluks each have six ZP seats. Hanur taluk has Lokkanahalli, Bandalli, Kowdalli, Ramapura, Martalli and Mahadeshwara Betta. While Gundlupet taluk has Begur, Baragi, Kabbahalli, Terakanambi, Hangala and Bannitalapura.

The newly constituted ZP seat is Honganur in Chamarajnagar taluk, Bhannitalapura in Gundlupet taluk, Kongarahalli in Kollegal taluk and Kesthur in Yelandur taluk and Mahadeshwarabetta in Hanur taluk. Now the total number of ZP seats is 28 in the district.
Taluk panchayat
candidates disappointed
On the other hand, the commission also decreased the number of taluk panchayat seats to 83 in all five taluks of the district in the fresh redistricting exercise from the existing 89 seats, dashing the hopes of aspiring candidates who are preparing to contest in the TP elections. A total of six TP seats were reduced in the district. As the commission constituted a taluk panchayat for every 12,500 voters in the taluk, the seats were decreased. Earlier, the commission had constituted a TP segment for every 10,000 voters.
Additional deputy commissioner Katyinidevi told TOI that people who had objections to this announcement still have a chance to file their application by visiting the official website of the commission.
Though the commission has increased ZP constituencies, it is considered an administratively wise decision, as the state government is postponing the ZP and TP elections, said M Mahesh, a former ZP member.
