Elderly woman conned

Chennai: An unidentified woman escaped with three sovereign gold jewellery from an elderly woman near Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district under the pretext of taking selfies after putting them on. The woman had asked for the jewellery from the elderly woman claiming that she wanted to click pictures with them.
According to Pennalurpet police, the victim was identified as Laila, 65. She lives at a house in Goonipalayam village near Uthukottai, and works at a government library nearby.
On Friday, as Laila was waiting for a bus, an unidentified woman on a two-wheeler approached her. She told her that she was on her way to Uthukottai and would drop her there. As they were on their way, the woman told Laila that she was impressed with the design of the gold earrings and chain that Laila was wearing.
She wanted to buy a similar one. She told her before buying one, she needed to find out whether the design suited her by clicking a selfie.
Laila removed her jewellery and gave it to the woman, who wore them and clicked a few selfies and fled on her two-wheeler.
A hunt is on for the woman.
