GHAZIABAD: Four persons were arrested on Sunday for allegedly snatching a motorcycle, a mobile phone and wallets from two persons in Ghaziabad's Tila Mor area last month. The accused had shot one of the victims in the legs.
The police have identified the arrested persons as Gaurav Gautam and Ashish Sharma alias Nanu, both residents of Tila Mor, Rohit Jatav from Vijay Nagar, and Imraaj, belonging to Delhi's Seemapuri area. Cops said Imraaj, who runs a shop in Delhi, was the mastermind of the robbery..
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the SHO of Tila Mor police station said on December 18, 2022, Afzal, a resident of Tila Mor and Dheeraj from Loni had gone to Seemapuri to meet their friend, Imraan. While returning, Afzal and Dheeraj stopped at a cart selling groundnuts in Tila Mor. "While they were purchasing groundnuts, the accused came from behind and shot one bullet at Dheeraj's leg. He fell to the ground and the accused then pointed the pistol at Afzal and snatched his Pulsar bike, Dheeraj's mobile phone and their wallets," he added.
They informed the police and soon a team reached the spot and rushed Dheeraj to a nearby hospital. Based on their complaint, the accused were booked under IPC sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 307 (attempt to murder).
"During the probe, we found a CCTV footage in which the accused were seen on a scooter. On the basis of surveillance and human intelligence, we managed to arrest the accused on Sunday," stated the SHO.
During questioning, Imraaj revealed that he overheard Dheeraj and Afzal's conversation at a liquor shop in Delhi where they stopped.
"Imraaj said the victims were talking about a holiday in foreign countries. At that time, they had also received their salary messages about which they discussed," Kumar said.
Overhearing their conversation, Afzal hatched a plan to rob them. Since then, he and his accomplice were following the duo. "And when the duo stopped, they robbed them," the police officer said.
Police have recovered the Pulsar, two scooters, a Royal Enfield Bullet and three country-made pistols along with live cartridges from the accused.
